For all things candle and home fragrance making!
Purity Home and Fragrance
Next up we get to hear from Katharine the owner of Purity Home and Fragrance!
So what’s Katharine’s story? Katharine is incredibly lucky. She has a friend who has a shop and she mentioned that she was looking for a candle maker. She then put her in touch with a friend who was at the time making candles. When the time came in August to make contact and start planning for products for the shop, her candle making friend said that she no longer wanted to do it. So, Katharine stepped in. Having an idea of the products and identity of the shop and what her products will be sitting with has helped her focus and create her brand and business.
So what made Katharine want to try her hand at candle and wax melt making? She is obsessed with candles and fragrance and she knows that her friends are. Following lockdown and being glued to the laptop didn't make her feel any love or fulfillment. So that was the deciding factor. Let's give this a go. She currently sells melts and candles.
How did Katherine start her business? She started by buying a candle kit and decided to give that a go. She then shared the products she made with her family and friends and said this is what I am branching out to do. How much would you pay for a product like this? What fragrances do you like? And following further market research, she created her brand and products.
So what’s the story behind her name and logo? She didn't want to be obvious with her name so she looked at what it meant as she had named her brand after her Granny and so Purity was born! How does she choose her candle and wax melt scents? Katharine chooses her fragrances from what she feels will stand out and aren't quite as obvious a choice. Something with a little je ne se quoi!
Lastly, we wanted to know if she has any advice for those hoping to build their own candle business? She told us to make sure you do your market research, not just of where your products come from but the market level you are aiming your product at. Consider the branding and invest in a quality designer!
