For all things candle and home fragrance making!
Norfolk Hygge
For this customer story, we get to hear from Anne Marsay the owner of Norfolk Hygge! Norfolk Hygge is home to Artisan soy wax melts, soy candles and artisan reed diffusers that are all hand made!
So what’s Anne’s story? Anne was asked to work from home in March 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. After a few months she decided that all she was doing was manoeuvring her life around her job. There was no escape as she could see her desk every time she moved around her home. So, being a candle and wax melt lover she decided to try her hand at making her own as she was tired of poor products from nasty paraffin where the scent didn’t last. All of a sudden, she found a love of crafting products and enjoying the positive impact it was having on her mental health.
We wanted to know what made her want to try your hand at candle and wax melt making. She told us that she took up crafting to help with her mental health and that she also decided to make candles and wax melts as she found that other products just weren’t very good!
So how did she start her business? Anne told us that she bought a candle making kit to get started and from there the bug hit her and she went on to buy more products making candles and melts on a larger scale!
We asked Anne what the story behind her name and logo was, she told us that she loves scandi style and the whole concept of Hygge...the art of cosy living. She started an Instagram page and it all took off from there! She fell in love with what she was doing and wanted to share the concept of hygge with as many people as possible. Anne is also in the process of writing a book. She told us that now more than ever, we all need a little hygge in our lives!
So how does Anne choose her candle and wax melt scents? She told us that she always opts for soy waxes and that she chooses scents that are not ‘fragrance dupe’ based. She started with a variety of scents and now 6 months in she can see which are popular and which aren’t. She also doesn’t use colours or any other additions like glitter etc, she keeps her candles and melts plain and simple!
Lastly, we asked Anne what advice she would give to those hoping to build their own candle business, she went on to tell us that you should start small, don’t cripple your finances to do it. Quite simply, offer a quality product!
