For all things candle and home fragrance making!
Balancedchi
For this customer story, we get to hear from Neil Watkins the owner of Balancedchi. Neil has a unique approach when it comes to candle making and makes candles for a very specific reason! Neil is an Ear acupuncturist teacher, Assessor and Practitioner and he has practised Traditional Chinese Medicine for a long time. He specialises in Stress Management and Relaxation. Of Course, the pandemic has altered all therapists courses in life, for a while and he is a great believer in "you can achieve anything".
Neil is quite new to making candles and as you know you learn and get better with each candle you make. In his early attempts, Neil did not measure the width of the candle holder to choose the correct wick size. Getting fed up with wasting wax, he thought why not let the candle go cold and then use a apple corer to take out the original wick. The wax you take out with the corer you simply reuse. Hence he tried it and managed to salvage a good candle that he trialled for Christmas. He was so pleased with himself that it had worked! Neil’s unique approach to candle making has helped him create candles that work for him!
So what made Neil want to try your hand at candle and wax melt making? Neil is retired and has reinvented his life in many ways. His retirement plan included candle making for relaxation and artistic crafting! Neil only makes candles for his family and friends. Although as he gets better, he may look into selling them to a customer base!
So how does he choose his candle scents? Neil is an aromatherapist and uses therapeutic oils to promote health and wellbeing. Now after a couple of trials and learning about flashpoints, he uses them in his candles. Neil likes therapeutic candles for all types of bodily ailments and likes to use them as an automatic relaxer for those who are stressed.
We asked Neil if he has any advice for those hoping to build their own candle business. He told us to never give up.....be inventive beyond convention......We all have an artistic craft within us....you just have to find it!
