How to make wax melts using mica powder
Mica Powders are stunning natural colours that are commonly known for their use in mineral makeup and eye shadows, etc. However, micas have gained incredible popularity as a natural alternative to colouring waxes with an eye-catching pearlescent sheen. Use around 5% mica powder for a shimmering effect.
What you need:
- EcoSoya Melt
- Bekro candle dye
- Mica Powders
- Clamshell
- Scales
- Thermometer
- Pouring jug
- Fragrance oil
- Saucepan
- Bowl
Step 1 - Measure
Firstly using your bowl and scales, measure out 80 grams of EcoSoya Melt Wax.
We like to use this wax as it exhibits a great scent throw, vibrant colours, and excellent mould release.
It's also vegan, cruelty-free and eco-friendly, what's not to love?
Step 2 - Melt
Next up, fill your pan halfway with boiling water.
Melt your wax on a medium to low heat and stir until melted.
Once your wax has melted, you can take it off the heat.
If you prefer to melt your max in the microwave, you can do so by placing your wax in a container on a medium heat for 5 minutes.
If your wax is not completely melted, stir and put it back in the microwave until melted.
Step 3 - Colour
Transfer your wax into a pouring jug.
Add your bekro chip dye, for our purple wax melts we used violet chip dye, for our orange wax melts we used orange chip dye, like in the video.
Step 4 - Fragrance
Let your wax cool to 65 degrees before adding your chosen fragrance oil.
We have over 200 fragrance to choose from and they're are all vegan and cruelty-free!
Step 5 - Mica powder
Add your mica powder to your melted wax and fragrance, we have chosen silver lilac to make our purple wax melts
For our orange wax melts we have opted for buttercup yellow mica.
We use a 5% mica powder to wax ratio.
Step 6 - Pour
Slowly pour your wax mixture into your chosen clam shell.
Leave your clam shells to set overnight, for cure time we recommend around 2 weeks.
All done!
Now you know how to use Mica Powder you can experiment, we're home to an abundance of colours! You can use Mica Powder for decorating the outside of a candle but we would not recommend using it in the candle wax as it can clog the wick, which is a potential fire hazard.
We’d love to see your work!
