How to make Watermelon Wax Melts
What you need:
•Melt wax (around 60g per mould)
•Green liquid dye
•Red liquid dye
•Black liquid dye
•Watermelon Margarita Fragrance oil
•Pink mica powder
•Snap Bar mould
•Hob/Hotplate/Double Boiler
•Pan
•Heatproof Bowl
•Thermometer
•Scales
•Pouring Jug 2x
•Pipet
Step 1: Measure your wax. Put your bowl on the scales and measure your wax to the desired amount (60g per snap bar mould).
Step 2: Melt your wax. Fill your pan with water and place on a hob under a low to medium heat. Place your bowl of wax onto the pan and stir gently until the wax has melted. Use your thermometer to tell when the wax has come to its required temperature.
Step 3: Making the seeds. Transfer a very small amount of the wax into a prewarmed cup. Stir in a few drops of the black dye thoroughly until you get a strong black colour in the wax. Then use your pipet to create small drops of the wax on the base of your wax moulds, but remember do not put the drops at the far end of the mould where the green wax will go!
Step 3: Green wax. Pour another small amount of wax into a pouring jug. Stir in a few drops of the green dye until you have a nice rich colour. Then at one end of the snap bar mould where you didn’t put the black spots, pour the green wax making sure that it doesn't spill over into the other compartments.
Step 4: Red wax. For the rest of the wax put your fragrance oil in if you are using it. This will generally be around 5-12% of the wax. Then add a good few drops of the red liquid dye until you get a strong red colour. Finally get your pink mica powder and sprinkle it over the wax before stirring thoroughly.
Step 5: Pouring and setting. Once the dye and the mica powder are fully incorporated, transfer into a pouring jug for easy pouring. Start gently pouring into the snap bar mould making sure that you are not making any bubbles. Finally leave to set and cure for up to 2 weeks.
We’d love to see your work!
