Coconut Candles
When it comes to making candles, coconut wax can be one of your best options, in one of two ways. You can buy yourself a wax that already contains coconut or you can add coconut oil to a wax that you already use and work with!

Most dyes work well with Blended Coconut Waxes, including our ProSoy Wax. When using dyes, we recommend heating the wax to the desired temperature and once fully melted you can add your dye, mixing it until it has dissolved fully.
The great thing about our Coconut Wax is that it can handle fragrance loads of up to 10%. We recommend that after you melt your wax that you remove it from the heat and then add your fragrance, stirring gently for approximately 2 minutes to make sure fragrance is fully combined with the wax.
We recommend heating our Coconut Wax to around 80°C under gentle agitation with constant mixing to promote even heating and melting. Add any desired fragrance and dye, mixing well to incorporate before allowing the wax to cool to the recommended 60°C -71°C pour temperature.

Storing your candles
Coconut candles often have a lower melt point, so correct storage of your wax creations is very important. We recommend keeping your candles away from sunlight, in a cool dry location that is away from heat sources or moisture!
Coconut Oil Candles
If you’ve already found a wax that you're comfortable using and feel like experimenting with it further, adding coconut oil to your candle wax could be the route for you if you don’t want to switch to a coconut blend wax.
When it comes to making candles with coconut oil, there is no special version! You can use the same coconut oil you use for cooking, baking or even making home cosmetics in your candles. You can easily make your own coconut oil at home or, for ease, buy some from a local health shop or large supermarket. The type you buy doesn’t matter, but one thing to note is that unrefined 100% organic coconut oil makes for a good quality candle that burns evenly.
We recommend that you melt down your chosen wax and then add some of your coconut oil to your mixture, stirring the two together thoroughly so that they bind before adding your chosen dragrance and or dyes. The ratio of wax to coconut oil is completely down to trial and error. Experimenting is the best way to find what works for you. To get started we suggest making a candle with one wick, and add different amounts of oil to each batch you make. Test burn your candles until you find a combination that works for you before moving on to testing candles that contain fragrance, you may find that some fragrances aren’t as suitable for others and will affect your candles burn in different ways!
Benefits of Coconut Candles
• Improves the pitfalls of most soy waxes
• Coconut wax is made naturally and has a high yield, producing plenty of wax from fewer coconuts meaning you get more without wasting too much crop
• Candles made from coconut wax burn slower than most others
• Fragrance oils blend well with coconut wax and have an amazing scent throw when the candle is lit
• Coconut candles tend to burn cleaner
• Improved glass adhesion
• Little to no frosting
• Vibrant colours when used with dyes
Drawbacks of Coconut Candles
• The wax is often softer to the touch
• Has a lower melt point, therefore must be stored correctly
• You may want to use an additive to harden the consistency of your wax if this is something you require
• If using coconut oil and a normal wax, the oil must be used sparingly due to its different melt point
• You may find that your candles ‘sweat’ during hot days/ warm environments
